The history of North Funen - from the palaeolithic stone age to the later viking age - is visible everywhere in the beautiful nature of the area.
As a greeting from our ancestors, burial mounds and barrows, passage graves and runic stones are scattered around the landscape – reminding us of the people living here long before our time.
In Emmelev, about 500 m down the gravel road to Pugholm (sign), you will find the passage grave “The Goose Stone”. It is possible to climb in and see the sepulchral chamber from the inside.
The burial mound and the barrow “Kappendrup Church” are placed in the back yard of the houses Kappendrup 55-63. Though the name is hinting differently the place was established in the period 3900-1700 B. C.
Another passage grave is found in Skamby. Behind the house at Brøndstrupvej 57 a path is leading to the passage grave, beautifully placed with a view to the fields.
On the top side of the 10 ton heavy top stone you will find bowl-shaped signs – known as fertility symbols.
