Harridslevgaard

During the season an exciting cultural experience is waiting at Harridslevgaard Castle, situated three kilometres from Bogense.

The great hall - the largest in Denmark in private possession - and the arched dungeon below the ground floor are parts of the 1550 m² open to the public.

The castle is mentioned back to King Valdemar’s cadastre of 1231, but the present building, which today is beautifully renovated, is dating back to 1606.

The story tells that in the Middle Ages Harridslevgaard was a hide-out for pirates. At that time the water reached up to the castle. In the tower lamps were hung up to make the crew believe that it was a lighthouse.

As a perfect ending you might enjoy a cup of coffee in the cosy kitchen of the castle or take a walk in the garden accompanied by the imposing peacocks.
